DARPA'S Cheetah Legged Robots

DARPA’S CHEETAH is the fastest legged robots that created and designed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). DARPA is an agency of the United States Department of Defense and responsible for the development of new technology for the military. CHEETAH is their latest project under M3 or Maximum Mobility and Manipulation program. DARPA’S CHEETAH can run at speed of up to 18 mph. The aim of designing this robot was to set a new land speed record for legged robots (the previous record was 13.1 mph). Their inspiration was the actual running Cheetah in nature. The robot runs by flexing and un-flexing its back with each step. It is a little scary to imagine this robot chasing soldiers in battlefield in future. As you can see in the video below the CHEETAH robot is running on a treadmill and powered by a hydraulic pump. This robot now is the world fastest running robot! Amazing, isn’t it?
