How to Make an AutoRun CD/DVD

All of you have seen the Autorun CDs or DVDs. Autorun or Autoplay feature is that by putting a CD or DVD inside the CD or DVD ROM, a program or a file containing a set of instructions, will run automatically. These two features (Autorun and Autoplay) are components of Microsoft Windows Operating System. In this post I will show you how to create your own CD/DVD with autorun feature and also how to specify an icon for it.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Notepad.

2. Copy and post the exact code below inside the Notepad:

3. Instead of Setup.exe in the code above, write the name of your file that you want to executed automatically when you put the CD/DVD inside the CD/DVD ROM. For example if your file name is CSArchive.exe, then the code will be like

Open=CSArchive.exe

4. For adding an icon to the CD/DVD, replace the Setup.ico with name of your icon.

5. Save the file with name autorun.inf and exit from the Notepad. Actually autorun.inf is a text file that can be uses by Autorun feature and it must be located in the root directory.

6. You have to place your exe file, icon and autorun.inf together inside the root directory of your CD/DVD that you want to burn.  Root directory is the first or top-most directory in a hierarchy. After that copy the rest of your files and burn the CD/DVD with CD/DVD writer.

Note: These three files must be present together in the root directory.
